Affordable comfortable business hotel in Geneva

December 2, 2020, No comments

I was in Geneva on business so why not stay in a hotel that is aimed squarely at business travellers? You can’t miss the Warwick (it’s almost the first thing you see as you emerge from the station in Geneva) but this time I did more than simply walk past. I went in.

The hotel had a makeover recently, ditching the drab beige exterior for a sleeker smarter grey that makes it both stand out and blend in. Certainly more to my taste than the marble-and-brass lobby but I can see that some guests would love the bling effect.

My bedroom was much more relaxing, with subdued tones and natural colours. I’d asked for a room away from the busy junction outside, and I got sixth floor, at the back, with a window that opened (I hate modern hotels that hermetically seal you inside): absolutely perfect.

The bathroom was pretty much as expected: smart and clean. Sadly it had mini toiletries and plastic cups not real glasses. These days I expect a 4* hotel to be more eco-conscious and use less plastic, despite corona to deal with. I’ve had proper glasses at cheaper hotels this year.

The best thing about the room: the view of the Jet d’Eau and the mountains. Definitely ask for a higher room at the back to get that view, and avoid lower rooms at the front if you don’t like noise. Soundproofed windows are all well and good but never quite enough.

Guests can use a nearby gym/sauna, a fab added bonus. Less welcome is the extra charge for breakfast; I know it’s normal in city hotels nowadays but it’s still irritating – though not enough that I wouldn’t stay again. The Warwick is a great affordable choice in an expensive city.

Overall rating: 83%

  • Best bits: comfortable rooms, views at the back, use of a gym.
  • Worst bits: breakfast is extra, busy junction, too much plastic.

I paid 148.50 francs for single use of a classic double room without breakfast.
