How to be Swiss: an instruction manual

December 8, 2016, 7 Comments

world-mapThe art of being Swiss isn’t an easy thing to master, even if you have a head start by being born that way, but How to be Swiss will help you make it (or fake it). This instruction manual is the result of years of hard work by the authors themselves, one British and one Swiss.

cheers-cartoonThe first step to Helvetic heaven is often the toughest: how to greet the Swiss when you meet them. Once you’ve passed that test, the next takes you back in time through the history every Swiss knows (or should do).

cows-cartoonFurther steps will have you living and laughing like the Swiss, seeing the world through their eyes, negotiating a political maze, and finding Swiss bliss in the simplest of things. Not forgetting the Swiss Commandments, which will be revealed in all their glory.

commandment-cartoonBy the end you will have learnt how to enter a lift properly and discovered why 1908 was such a special year; you will know how to spend your Sundays and have navigated the Swiss archipelago. In fact, you will have realised how Swiss you are already, or how Swiss you want to be.

baby-cartoonHow to be Swiss is on sale in bookshops across Switzerland, or online direct from the publisher. It’s essential reading for anyone living, and laughing, in Switzerland.

    Hi Diccon,

I’ve been a fan since you came out with your first book, I was still living in the USA then. I have since relocated to the UK. It’s only been 4 months and I’m still adjusting, but I do like it. I plan to buy your new book, looks like a very interesting read. I might even try to join one of your book signing events, now that I’m so much closer.

    Cheers!

    Anne

I work for a large university library and just cataloged How to be Swiss (WorldCat 1017082849) and it was a great way to start the day. I laughed out loud several times and shared the book with fellow laborers who I knew shared my dry sense of humor. Love your website as well. Thank you for reasons to laugh..
