80 Maps is coming to America!

September 15, 2016, No comments

Lampost New Glarus WIOctober will be Swiss map month in America this year! I will be going across the pond to tell people all about the wonderful world of Swiss cartography, and show them how the story of Switzerland can be traced through maps.

It’s all being made possible by the lovely people at the Swiss Embassy in Washington DC. They love my book, Around Switzerland in 80 Maps, so much that they asked me to pop over this autumn and give a few talks about it. With plenty of visuals, of course, so that everyone can see the beautiful maps. And the book itself.

Gallatin statue Washington DCThe event in Washington DC is on Monday 17 October at 7pm in The Potter’s House, a bookstore and café in Adams Morgan. It is being hosted by the Swiss Embassy and there will be an apéro as well. It is free and open to everyone.

But the first event will be on Thursday 13 October at 7pm in Turner Hall in Monroe, Wisconsin. I was there last summer and liked it so much that I’m going back, and again I’m being hosted by the Swiss Center of North America. I’ll also be visiting New Glarus, which really is America’s Little Switzerland, as this video I made shows.

Lastly there is one in New York, though that involves registering first. If you would like to come, it is on Monday 24 October at 6pm but you must register by 17 October. You can do that online here. All three events are also listed on the Events page.

If you can’t make any of the events but would still like to buy a signed copy (it’s a perfect Christmas present!), then get in touch with me or the Swiss Center of North America and we can arrange for one to be sent to you.
