A very Swiss look for an iPad

June 6, 2012, 1 Comment

Steve Jobs and Jesus: it was all their fault. Thanks to them I bought an iPad and Easter egg. And because of that moment of retail madness, I ended up with yet another empty chocolate wrapper and a very smart Swiss iPad cover. The first I managed all alone, the second was down to my friend Kim, who makes wonderful things out of felt.

It was Easter week, shortly after Der Schweizversteher had appeared in the shops, and I found out that it had reached No 9 in the Swiss bestseller list, sandwiched between Jesus and Jobs (or at least biographies of them). Definitely a moment for celebration, not least because I was the only one of the three of us still alive. So in honour of my two bestseller neighbours I bought a chocolate egg (it was Easter, after all) for instant pleasure and the iPad for long-term gratification.

Retail therapy over, I decided I needed a cover for my new toy (sorry, important work-related gadget). That’s where Kim came in, literally as I was sitting in her kitchen at the time. Many moons ago we worked together at the travel magazine, sharing priceless moments in a Barbados nightclub, a Seville tapas bar and a Blackpool public toilet. These day she does amazing things with felt, making it lovingly from scratch rather than boiling up old jumpers. Cue my desire for a Swiss iPad cover.

If you want to find out more about Kim’s work, then read her Flextiles blog. Or even get in touch with her to ask about your own Swiss iPad cover. I love mine, and can even show you how it was made:

Sorry about the Eurovision comment – you got kicked into Spam by the filter but I have now rescued it and posted it. The Tick Box probably won’t be happening as the new theme doesn’t support it.
As for Jesus and Easter, I never said that he would use that word. I used the two words together, as do many people these days, whether it’s in the Bible or not.
