Watch out Ostschweiz, here I come!

February 2, 2012, 7 Comments

St Gallen, Winterthur, Wetzikon and Chur. What do they have in common, other than being on the far side of Switzerland from Bern? Easy. In March I’ll be the guest speaker at an event in each place. And about time too – after 50+ events all over Switzerland, it was high time I ventured into the Far East. Now, thanks to the English Department of Migros Klubschule, I’ll be going four times in two weeks. Best of all for you, the events are free so if you want to come along, all you have to do is register (details below). Best of all for me, I’ll have time to revisit my favourite religious building in Switzerland: St Gallen Abbey, a truly outstanding example of church architecture. No wonder it’s a Unesco heritage site.

The four events are each taking place in a different Migros Klubschule, as part of an open house in the English Departments, with information on courses, books and classes on hand both before and after me speaking. Of course, you can come along just for the info and not hang around to listen to me. Or you can come by to say hello and get a book signed (either bring yours along or buy one at the event). Or do both. All you do have to do is register, so that the lovely people at Migros have an idea of how many people to expect.

Friday 9 March in St Gallen

Saturday 10 March in Wetzikon

  • Doors open 1.30pm, main event 2.30-4pm
  • Reservations: [email protected] or 044 931 5020

Friday 16 March in Chur

Saturday 17 March in Winterthur

Don’t forget – they are all free! If you can’t make any of those, then another date for your diary is the evening of Wednesday 9 May. That will be the official Bern launch of Der Schweizversteher, the German edition of Swiss Watching, at Stauffacher Bookshop. It will be a bilingual event and I’ll post more details here once I have them. Alternatively if you want to write as well as listen, I’ll be one of the tutors at the Zurich Writers Workshop on 18-20 May; I will be focusing on non-fiction, and travel writing in particular – and in English only! All the events will be listed, as always, on the Events page of this blog.

Hope to see you at one of the above. It’s always great to meet readers and interact with real human beings rather than mere names on a Comment list or email address. Why not come along – I’d love to see you!

What about the Wild South? Doesn’t Ticino deserve a visit? 🙂

Of course it does, which is why I’ve been twice already! I did events in Lugano in both 2010 and 2011, and I guess I’ll be back again this autumn. I’ll keep you posted.

    Hello Diccon!
We read your “Swiss Watching” in the Migros Klubschule in St. Gallen and we had much fun. We are looking forward to meeting you personally on March 9. BTW, could you please tell us how we have to pronunciate you name. May be you already told it somewhere but I couldn’t find it.
    Regards ….. Noldi

Hallo from Bern! I’m looking forward to the event as well. I think it’s sold out now, so it will be a fun evening. My family name rhymes with ‘news’ even though it has an extra ‘e’. My first name has a short ‘i’, so sounds like (Charles) Dickens but without the ‘s’. Hope that helps :-)See you on Friday
