Four little films about Swissness

For the past few weeks I’ve been making little video podcasts about Swissness. The very first one featured a coconut which now accompanies me to all my events. That doesn’t mean I’m turning into Tom Hanks’ character in Castaway; I still do talk to humans and as yet my coconut doesn’t have a name. But next week I’m off to California, and I’m not sure my coconut will be allowed through customs, so I’ll have to work with an American one. That could be a challenge. And to keep you all happy while I am in America, here are the four podcasts I made earlier.

If you’ve been following this blog for a while, you might recognise some of the content. It’s not the first time I’ve talked about the likes of Swissness or Swinglish, but it’s much more fun to do it with props.

This all started when a lady at Laufen in the USA read my blog, contacted me and suggested that some podcasts would be a fun way to give Americans a taste of life in Switzerland. Or at least life as I see it! Laufen is the biggest Swiss producer of bathrooms and toilets. Not that I know much about either of those, but they asked me to talk about Swissness instead – and that is something I know a bit about!

So that was a short visual introduction to Swissness. There will be more to come, and you can see the latest podcasts (and other Swissy things) on Laufen’s Facebook page. Or indeed Swiss Watching’s own Facebook page. Or come and see me and my coconut next week in Los Angeles, where I am speaking at the Beverly Hills Hotel on June 23rd.  After that it’s weeks of relaxation and the next research trip – pleasure before business. See you in August!

I love this! Not only did I get to see and hear you which is nice because after reading your blog for over a year now it is nice to see who you are. I only watched the first podcast as I am saving the rest for tomorrow. No, really I need to get going here so I don’t have time to watch and still write. Getting to see all that the Swiss invented is truly interesting and the way you pronounce words is also interesting. I had no idea the English pronounce aluminum that way.
I would love to see you on June 23 but I will be in Florida on my own vacation. Yay! Also I am moving to North Carolina so I am quit busy right now.

My favorite Swinglish term is ‘car’, used as a synonym for ‘motor-coach’ or ‘bus’.
